To one Selected for a Salesman’s Post

Dear Ganesh,
I am extremely delighted to know that you have been selected as a salesman at the Malick Cement Co. This is an opportunity for a young man to stand on his own feet and learn how to deal with customers and people in general.
You have asked me for advice on how to proceed. As you know your main task will be to win goodwill and customers for your company. You must argue your case convincingly to bring out the merits of your company. Do not exaggerate because clients can see through this. Say how in a practical way the client is gaining by buying from you. Probably you are the only company paying for the transport or something of the sort.
Your own experience as you go along will teach you the permutations of human dealing. There is also a fine book which might be exploited — Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Succeed in Life”. Bu no advice or book can do what the job of learning does.
With all best wishes,
Meeta Bose.
